Enchanted Rock

What do you get when you combine 13 families, all their gear and tents, and one really cool State Park? The Hill Country Camping Society back in business! We set out for a two day campout at Enchanted Rock with Kyle and Alison as our faithful hosts. This was probably one of my favorite campouts because the location was amazing and Emmy and Boone are finally at a much more independent age. The only drawback- 30 degree temps at night! It took so much energy to just stay warm in our sleeping bags. At one point I found Boone standing by our tent as Joel and Robert were putting it up. He was not moving and was staring blankly so I asked him what he was doing. "I. Am. Fweezing," was his reply in his little two year old, raspy voice. Needless to say when the sun hit our tent in the morning we were more than grateful. We had a great weekend filled with all sorts of adventures. Looking forward to next time already!
Maggie and Blair were such champs! Ali had the great foresight to arrange a baby cabin each night. She and Mel drove to Llano and spent the night in the warm Faubion family ranch house.

We lucked out and had a playground right next to our campsite!

Coffee in the mornings was a must...as well as bundling up with as many layers as we could until the sun could thaw out our frozen bodies.

On our way up Enchanted Rock.

The extra baby weight was an added challenge as we climbed.

Emmy and Caleb encouraged eachother to keep going.

At the top! Victory!

We found a spot, protected from the wind, where we ate a quick lunch and did some exploring. Joel and Robert took five kiddos on an expedition in the caves. Brave men.

Doing a little bouldering.

All tuckered out.

Blake and Boone still had some energy and decided a good wrestle was in order.

All of the kids got experience climbing to the top of a small rock cliff with a harness and rope!

We celebrated Blake's 2nd birthday and Merrick's 1st birthday! Yes Blake has a lighter in his hand.

Hiking is hard work!

Emmy's attempt to take a picture.

Boone took it upon himself to educate all of his friends in proper gun handling techniques.
