The Hunt for Treasured Eggs

It has been a long time since we have had a good old Easter egg hunt. Last year the kiddos were still too small to really get the concept of looking for hidden eggs (Boone wasn't even one yet) so this year Joel and I had the extreme pleasure of watching our munchkins fly around the yard searching for those colorful treasures. We were also delighted that Pancho and Lesley came to celebrate this wonderful holiday with us.
We waited for Aunt Lesley before we dyed our eggs. I think this was her first time to do so since we were chilrens. We only got to do one egg each; the kids were so selfish ;).

Emmy and Boone were fasctinated that their fingers changed colors as well as the egg shells. I was fasctinated that there were no major spills as I was fully prepared to repaint the walls after this activity.
After church the adults hid all the eggs while the chilrens waited in Boone's room. I don't know who had more fun: those hiding the eggs or the seekers? When we announced that the hunt had begun, these two came bursting out of the room.
Very funny! Boone would literally chunk the eggs in his bucket. Which was fine for the plastic eggs. The hard boiled ones didn't fare quite so well.

Does it get any cuter than that? A little sprite running around gleefully in the cutest pink dress Target has ever produced.

A proud boy with his booty.

My good friend Julie gave us some "Resurrection Eggs" this year. These eggs are so cool and will be a continued tradition in our home. This is a neat way to teach kids the story of Christ's death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. There are twelve plastic eggs. Each have an item inside representing a different part of the Passion story. A little book accompanies the set, with a different page for each egg detailing the account from the Bible. Each morning we would read the card that corresponded with the egg that day and then open the egg to see what was inside. For instance, the story talked about Jesus coming into Jerusalem as the people waved palm branches acknowledging him as Messiah. Inside the egg for that day was a plastic donkey to represent what Jesus rode as he made his way into the walls of the city.

What a joyous celebration indeed. Hunting for eggs as treasure holds more significance than simply something fun to do with the kids. It is a reminder that our true treasure is Christ. When we seek him, we shall find him for HE IS RISEN! Happy Easter 2011
