Almost Thanksgiving

As we prepare to leave for Dallas to celebrate Thanksgiving with Joel's side of the family

we are working really hard on good table manners.

We are also taking time out of our days to stop and smell the... marigolds.

Taking time to remember stories of the
Native Americans sharing their corn with the poor Pilgrims who wanted nothing more than to share this wonderful land...at least it's a nice thought.
And taking time to dance around in our princess crown with joy!
Smiling as we remember those we love.
There are a few things that I love about Thanksgiving: obviously the food and family...blah blah blah. But really I LOVE getting to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and seeing The Nutcracker as a way to symbolically usher in Christmas! This weekend we took Emmy to see the San Diego Ballet perform the classic show in Kerrville! Her friend Ellie was chosen to perform as one of the kiddos in the opening Act! Emmy was geared up and dressed to the nines.
During intermission this little ballerina pranced and floated all around the foyer. I must admit she looked yummy enough to eat! We couldn't go anywhere without people oohhing and ahhhing over the cute little future ballet dancer. Of course Emmy ate that up.
We were so proud of Ellie. She did a great job. The ballet itself was amazing and beautiful despite the gargantuan legs and...other things...of the main male dancer...crazy. After the show we went in search of Ellie to congratulate her (not knowing she was already at home waiting for US!) and found ourselves backstage as the stage hands were loading up all of the props; then we meandered into the dressing rooms where all of the costumes and dancers were milling around. I just walked with confidence and looked like we belonged there...I don't know who was more enthralled: me or Emmy! People actually thought we were a part of the show because of Emmy's tutu. I heard one man tell her good show! Ha!
It was so fun getting to share this with Emmy as a way to carry on a Loop family tradition. My mom took us several times to see The Nutcracker and it was always a special treat.
Now it is time to get ready for some turkey and dressing and pumpkin pie!
Happy Thanksgiving!

This is the most adorable thing ever!!!

P.S. If Emmy decides not to grow out of her curls, we'll need to talk. As the curly headed daughter of a straight haired mama-- I've got some curl taming wisdom and Emmy shouldn't have to wait 27 years to discover the tricks on her own. Love you, Katie!
